What is Forest Therapy?

Forest therapy is a research-backed mindfulness practice that guides you to slow down, quiet the mind, and engage your senses. Far from a strenuous hike, it is a deliberate immersion designed to bridge the gap between modern stress and natural restoration.

Quiet Mind
Reset Body
Restore Focus

Shift your focus from overthinking to direct sensory awareness—sound, scent, and touch—to stop racing thoughts and drop out of mental fatigue.

Step into natural environments that trigger your body's relaxation response, lowering stress hormones, calming heart rate, and restoring nervous system balance.

Give your brain a total break from screens, notifications, and constant decision-making through gentle, unhurried attention in nature.

What to Expect

We meet at a quiet, pre-arranged trailhead, take a moment to settle in, and set a gentle personal intention for our time together in the forest.

Through unhurried, sensory invitations, you will be guided to slow down, quiet your mind, and connect deeply with the living world around you.

We close our experience together by sharing a freshly brewed warm herbal tea, offering a peaceful space for quiet reflection and gentle integration.

Hi, I’m Bre! After years in fast-paced creative and tech roles, spending intentional time outdoors completely transformed my relationship with stress. That experience inspired me to found Human Nature Ecotherapy to help others find peace and presence through nature connection.

As a certified guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs, I’ve spent countless hours in the woods—a practice made easy living on 5 forested acres. Born and raised in Colorado, I am thrilled to work with my fellow Coloradans. By deepening our connection with nature, we can build inner resilience and work together to become better stewards of our beautiful state.

FAQ

What physical ability or fitness level is required?

None at all. Forest therapy is slow-paced, gentle, and unhurried—typically covering less than a mile over flat, easily walkable terrain. It is not a fitness hike or a strenuous workout. We move at a relaxed rhythm, with plenty of opportunities to sit, rest, and pause along the trail.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate layers and supportive outdoor shoes or sneakers. We recommend bringing water, a hat or sunscreen, and a light jacket. We provide clean trail cushions or blankets for sitting comfortably on the ground. To help you fully step away from daily demands, we invite you to keep your phone tucked away or on silent throughout the session.

How accessible are the trail locations?

We prioritize accessible, peaceful natural settings in Northern Colorado and Boulder County. Trail locations can be selected to accommodate mobility needs, including flat gravel paths, wheelchair-accessible trails, and areas with seating options or benches nearby. We will discuss your physical comfort and mobility preferences before selecting our meeting spot.

What if the weather is bad on the day of my session?

Nature immersions take place rain, snow, or shine—often, gentle weather like light rain or snowfall creates an exceptionally peaceful sensory experience. However, if severe weather poses safety concerns (such as high winds, lightning, or extreme temperatures), we will reach out to reschedule your session at no cost.

What actually happens during a session?

Sessions begin at a quiet trailhead with a brief arrival and intention setting. Your guide will then offer a series of gentle, open-ended "invitations" designed to quiet your mind and engage your senses—such as noticing subtle natural patterns, sounds, or textures. We close the experience by sharing a warm herbal tea and a space for quiet reflection.

How are private immersions customized for my needs?

Before your session, we briefly connect to discuss your primary focus—whether you are seeking burnout recovery, navigating a life transition, or looking for practical somatic grounding tools. Your guide tailors the invitations, pace, and location around your personal goals and physical comfort so you can drop out of overthinking and step fully into your body.
